Reunited……..!

I was recently browsing one of my social media platforms sales areas and found some pictures of a nice looking 1981 Kawasaki Z250A3, a little four stroke twin for those of you that are not familiar with 1980’s 250’s. Initially I was attracted because when I started work in the bike trade I worked in a Kawasaki dealers when these were all the rage. K Motorcycles in Bedford was a small Kawasaki dealers opened on the crest of a wave of a resurgence of motorcycling popularity, driven by the FS1E generation in the late 70’s and early 80’s. And became what every good dealer should strive to be, the hub of a busy social circle, from which Saturday runs used to start, several clubs formed and many lifelong friendships were formed.

In view of the bike being in Chester and some difficulties getting together at a time we both could manage before the weekend, I bought it blind, agreeing a price on-line and making arrangements to collect it the next week. At this point in time I had no idea as to the bikes history. When I turned up to collect it, it was every bit as clean as it looked in the photos so I paid for it and went outside to load it into my van. Only, then did I really notice the registration number, and I was sure it looked familiar, XGS64X, my best mate Lozzo (one of those life long frienships mentioned earlier) had owned one of these bikes in this colour option in 1982-3 and my first thoughts were it was his. However, although a quick call to him confirmed that yes it was the right model and colour, it was in fact 10 digits, his was ’54X’, shame it would have been great to reunite the two of them nearly 40 years later. But, it still meant that I had just purchased a bike from the dealers I used to work at in 1981 and as I used to sell a good portion of the bikes from the shop, I would guess one that there is a 50/50 chance that I actually sold as a new bike 37 years before, what are the chances?! I mean the better part of 40 years and well over 200 miles away from where it was sold and me finding it online….who says coincidences don’t happen.
